Dan Alderson

Born Scone, October 22, 1933.

After arriving home from hospital, his mother and father took him to live at Glenrock Station. He lived there for about two years and after the birth of his sister Louise, the family moved to 'The Willows' on the Barnard River.

He was taught by correspondence until the age of 11 and then went to board and school with Bess and Harry Cox at Ormidale Brook.

After leaving school at 14 he went to work for Harry Hogno. Harry and his father, Albert, had 3,000 acres five miles from their house, on top of the range called 'Smokey Swamp'.

He worked for Harry for about six months, building their house and working in the sawmill. He left work at Hogno's in 1949 and started work on Glenrock station as a carpenter and doing stock work during branding and shearing times. In December 1951, he left Glenrock Station for Tamworth, commencing work with the Tamworth City Council.

He worked on the Tamworth Power Station until May, 1952, when he was conscripted into the Air Force for National Service. He was trained as an Air Frame Fitter at Williamtown Air Force Base and after this six months training, he was placed on the general reserve and returned to work at the Power Station.

In February, 1955, he took a part-time job at the Regent Cinema as Assistant Projectionist. He continued working with the Tamworth City Council until October, 1958, when he resigned and took up full-time employment with Hoyts Country Cinemas at the (now demolished) Tamworth Capitol Cinema. About this time he married Eileen Cathcart. They had two children, Allan and Leanne.

The Cinema closed in 1966 when Hoyts opened the Tamworth Drive-in and he was transferred back to the Regent Cinema where he stayed until 1972 when the Cinema was closed and sold by Hoyts. He was then transferred to the Drive-in Threatre as Manager/Operator and worked there until the Drive-in closed in April, 1984.

He managed a service station in Moonbi for four years but returned to the Regent Cinema when it re-opened in April 1988. He was appointed Manager of the cinema in October of that same year and stayed until retirement in 1989 at which time had moved to Kootingal.

After his retirement from the Regent Cinema, he continued to work at the Forum 6 Cinema Tamworth.
